Ghana is now a part of Idris Elba’s list of desired partnerships in Africa.

Idris Elba, a well-known British actor, recently visited Ghana and had a meeting at Jubilee House with Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the president of that country.

Idris Elba was seen promoting the concept of opening a film studio in the nation of west Africa in a meeting footage that has gone viral on social media.

He observed that the absence of facilities had severely limited the possibilities for filmmaking. He also discussed the significance of government initiatives in advancing the African film industry.

He told the Ghanaian president,“We’ve studied the models of obviously South Africa’s incredible incentive package, and around Europe, obviously, Greece, Morocco, these are all places where they realise the value of the filmmaking dollar and have brought that policy into play.”

The famous actor disclosed that he is currently filming a movie and would really like to shoot portions of it in Ghana. Pre-production is scheduled to start in August, and actual photography will start in December, he revealed.

Additionally, he stated to the president of Ghana that he wanted this movie to serve as a proof of concept. “It would be really helpful for us to demonstrate and say to the world that Ghana is open for business, here are the procedures, the laws are in place, and we have actually brought a movie to our nation, and we are going to put our money where our mouth is.”

Idris, who is of Ghanaian and Sierra Leonean ancestry, is passionate about expanding the African cinema industry. In films like Beast of no Nation and Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, he has played parts that accurately depict some of Africa’s most difficult trials. Idris Elba starred in the 2021 Universal Pictures film Beast, which was entirely filmed in South Africa.

He has not shied away from addressing the market potential of Africa on various platforms including the 2022 US-Africa Leaders Summit in Washington, D.C.,and he continues to use his position to do so. Less than a week, he revealed his plans to establish a film studio in Tanzania.
